I met Herman Chinery-Hesse through my friend Shirley, and we became well-acquainted. His grand-dad Lawyer Blay and his wife Maa Maria were family friends, who often lodged with us when they visited from Sekondi-Takoradi,
at the residence of my Graa'ma and grandad Dinah & David Heathcote of Kanda Estates in my early years.
During the COVID lockdown, Herman would invite me and pick me up a few times to break bread with him and his friends at Berekuso. They were so generous-hearted that in return, I made them a dish of jollof rice on my last visit. The dish was a hit. Everyone loved it!
Following that visit, it suddenly occurred to me that from KNUST, Accra, Los Angeles, Accra, i had often received raving feedback about my jollof dishes. It was in that moment that AB&C was conceived in my mind. When I called Herman and asked what he thought about my idea, he said it was brilliant! The rest is part of 'My Story'.
It is with such gratitude that I publish this tribute in memory of Herman, because it was in honoring his invitation to dine with him and his friends that the vital thought impulse that generated the AB&C Prime Jollof brand was triggered out of obscurity into this reality.
Thank you, Herman.
